Moeraki Boulders
Up to 3.5 hours either side of low tide a beautiful walk south along the beach will take you to the boulders (around 25 minutes one way).
To drive there it's 1.5km south on the main road – at all times.

Yello-eyed penguin colony
One of the best spots in NZ to view them. Drive south to Moeraki Village. At entrance to the village watch out for the sign 'to lighthouse road'.
Follow the lighthouse road (good gravel road) to the lighthouse (8 km from the park).
Best time to view them is around 1-2 hours before sunset.

Hector dolphins
Might be spotted at any time of the day in the bay where the creek runs in to the sea & close to shore.

Boat ramp
Located in Moeraki, 5km from the park.
Fee applying.

Plenty of blue cod is caught off shore with your own boat or a charter.
Elephant fish and baby sharks can be caught surf casting in front of the camp or try 'fishing point' by the Moeraki lighthouse (beware of seals).

Fishing charters
3 boats operating out of Moeraki, all charging around $140/person.
Ask at the office.

Occasionally you get some light swells for surfing on the beach.

Safe swimming beach just outside the park.

Small children's playground, swings, seesaw and boulders available by and on the beach.

Fleurs Place
Internationally acclaimed seafood restaurant.
You will need to book in advance – even for lunch!
Closed Monday & Tuesday.

Fish & Chips
Best fish and chips is to be had at 'Vanessa's' 250m up the road.

Hampden Tavern
Great spot for a beer and steak. Does great take-aways. Short walk up the road on the main road (250 m).
Open daily.

Trotters Gorge
Beautiful walk through native bush to a viewpoint overlooking the sea and the gorge (1.5 h round trip).
Nice pools for bathing in the stream. (9 km from the park)

Shag Point
Wild and remote coastline with a chance to see seals and yellow-eyed penguins (16 km from the park).

Little blue penguins
Large and famous, commercial colony at Oamaru (25 min. drive).
Go and see the little blue pinguins coming ashore just before dark.
Book at office.

25 min. north on SH1.
Don't miss the Victorian Precinct by the harbour, the public gardens, whitestone cheese factory and of course the blue penguin colony.

Visit the largest active gold mine in New Zealand at Macraes flat (45 min. southwest of park).
